Installation
The prices listed on the website include reading the ECU and writing the tuned ECU strategy to the car for any tune purchased from Auto Upgrades if you live in the Auckland area. There is a surcharge of approximately $300 for each removal/reinstallation of the ECU, changing of the cooling fluid, and bleeding of the cooling system for Continental MSD85-based BMWs (e.g., 2009-2011 550i, 2011-2012 650i, 2008-2009 750i, 2009 X5M, 2009 X6M, 2010 X5 50i, and 2009-2010 X6 50i). If you live outside of the Auckland area, please call us before buying a tune so that we can arrange the logistics of the installation.
We will do our best to arrange the installation of the tune at a time that is convenient for you. Once your order is placed, we will contact you via phone or email to arrange a suitable time for installation. You may also call us before ordering and make a booking if you would like to reserve a specific time for no extra charge.
Vehicle Insurance & Liability
By leaving your vehicle with us, you confirm that it is fully insured, including coverage for third-party use while it is being test-driven by our team. Auto Upgrades, its employees, and contractors are not responsible for any damage or loss to your vehicle or its contents while in our possession, during test drives, or while parked in our facilities or on the roadside.
The use of our car park facilities is entirely at your own risk. We take reasonable care to protect your vehicle, but we cannot guarantee its security or protection from damage, theft, or unforeseen events. By leaving your vehicle with us, you acknowledge and accept these terms.
Cancellation
You may cancel your order and receive a full refund if you give 24 hours’ notice prior to the first installation appointment. If you cancel after this period, you will be charged for any costs we incur, including labor and travel. We do not charge administrative fees for cancellations.
Performance Guarantee
We guarantee an improvement in your vehicle’s responsiveness, power, and torque gain as well as fuel economy. If you feel that we have not achieved this, please contact us within 7 days, and we will either resolve the matter to your satisfaction or return the vehicle to its original tune and refund the cost of the tuning.
Previously Tuned Cars
If your car has been previously tuned, we will assess whether it is possible to improve the existing calibration. Following our investigation, we will either proceed with a new tune or advise you to retain the current one. If we determine no further tuning is beneficial, you will not be charged for tuning but will incur a charge for testing at our standard hourly rate. If a prior software modification has been made, we may not be able to restore the factory tune.
Risks
There are inherent risks in reprogramming your vehicle's ECU and running a modified tune. We take every practical measure to mitigate these risks, these could include:
- Comprehensive diagnostics testing
- Air/Fuel ratio analysis via ECU Live Data (when available) and/or external sensors
- Monitoring of combustion noise, boost pressure (desired vs. actual), and other relevant ECU parameters
However, some factors remain beyond our control, such as pre-existing mechanical issues, poor maintenance, undetected ECU faults, or prior engine/turbo damage. By proceeding with our services, you agree to indemnify Auto Upgrades, Ecommerce NZ Ltd, and their respective directors, shareholders, employees, and agents from any liability for losses arising from tuning-related issues. While we will work with you to resolve any problems, delays and additional costs may be incurred.
If any issues arise that require additional maintenance, it may extend the completion time. Please feel free to ask us questions at any stage—we are happy to explain any aspect in detail.
Prices
Prices are stated and charged in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and include Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Privacy Policy
Images of work in our workshop may be used for marketing purposes, though we aim to keep them non-identifiable.
Your privacy is important to us. We adhere to best-practice standards regarding your personal information, including what we collect, how we collect it, and how it is used.
- We will not collect personally identifiable information (e.g., name, email, phone number) without your knowledge and permission.
- You consent to us accessing information about you on the Motor Vehicle Register.
- We will not disclose your personal information to third parties unless authorized by you.
- We will take reasonable steps to secure any collected personal information.
